Turn up and take part Nativity service
Turn up and take part Nativity Service
Nothing makes the Sunday school leaders come out in a cold sweat more than when the dreaded words "Nativity Service" are mentioned in a planning meeting - usually in June. The increasingly sporadic nature of church attendance makes rehearsing for a play nigh on impossible but everyone wants to see a nativity performance and it is a great way to connect with family members who don't normally come to church.
The attached plan is for a turn up and take part nativity service (often called a 'Scratch Nativity') from start to finish, which requires no rehearsal at all from any of the cast except for a lead and a narrator who should be someone the children are comfortable with and is good at working with children. Ideally a child should be given a chance to practise a reading too. Without a rehearsal, children often struggle with the unfamiliar words.
